Practice Assessment

HealthPower's practice assessments are customized to the needs, scope, and specialty of your practice. A practice assessment is similar to an annual checkup; it provides a valuable barometer of current operations and blueprint for a successful future.

Practice assessments are especially useful and appropriate for any of the following situations:

  • Physicians who recognize the need for change and need assistance evaluating options
  • Practices facing major change, such as physician retirement, expansion of office sites, implementation of new systems, or the need for capital expenditures
  • Hospitals seeking to acquire practices or are looking to optimize the productivity of newly-acquired medical practices
  • Third party payors who want to maximize efficiency and quality within their participating provider panels

The goal of a practice assessment is to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of practice management systems and staff in light of the practice's current status and anticipated growth. HealthPower's assessments begin with a review of current practice data, and then proceed with the site visits, delivery of a summary report, and discussion of the report and its implications with selected physicians and staff members.

HealthPower staff review practice materials before visiting the offices to gain an understanding of the policies and procedures used by the practice. We then work on site at each practice location, talking with each physician and selected practice staff, and observing practice policies, procedures, and systems.

Among the areas we may examine:
  • Professional and practice goals
  • Staffing patterns, responsibilities, job descriptions & productivity
  • Front desk processes and procedures
  • Appointment scheduling
  • Telephone policies and procedures
  • Patient flow and workflow
  • Overhead and other expense levels
  • Personnel policies and procedures
  • Billing and collections policies and procedures
  • Management reporting
  • Quality improvement monitoring
  • Space utilization
  • Practice-specific written materials and website development
  • Utilization and adequacy of office equipment and systems
